Montreal restaurant Guide, Quick reviews (2008-2009) : Top 15 of Montreal and Quebec + Bottom of the list
All ratings are over /3 stars
* Average
** Good
*** Very Good
***+ Exceptionally stellar
As usual, as I have always reminded the readers of my 10 yrs ++ of food/leisure/travel reviewing, I am just reporting what MY TASTEBUDS have sensed! This is just one tool among others to be considered in your search of Montreal Restaurants. There is no PERFECT review. Our ultimate judge is own own tastebuds!
Also: The ratings you see here are based on Montreal/QC standard comparisons (I know a lot of the San Pellegrino top 100 World Best tables, but it would make no sense to compare them to Mtl restaurants. Let's compare apples with apples, so Mtl/Quebec tables to Mtl/Quebec standards.
It is not convenient to browse through an entire text listing of Restaurants. So as a the majority of you had requested, I will separate this into 2 sections:
(1)What my tastebuds had instructed me to be the top 25 best Restaurants of Montreal/QC,
(2)Restaurant listing from the best to the less rated tables
This list will evolve continuously with my latest dinner updates at those tables

-Le Bonaparte, Montreal: Food ***, Service ***+, Ambiance**
As far as classic french cuisine goes, this is an elite table in Mtl (consistant great
classic food. Their 60 something $$ multiple course tasting menu is, imho, the best value you can
get in Mtl for such quality food. Again, I repeat: it is CLASSIC FRENCH food!)
-Le Nantua, Montreal: Food ***, Service ***+, Ambiance**
Here also: great fresh seafood, top notch ingredients, consistant great CLASSIC french
fare. Both Nantua and le Bonaparte are my personal top best for CLASSIC French fare. Nantua is my personal top favourite for Fresh seafood.
-Il Mulino, Montreal: Food ***, Service ***, Ambiance*
My top favourite for Italian Food in Mtl (followed by Primo & Secondo, Casa Cacciatore)
-Moishes, Montreal: Food ***, Service **, Ambiance*
Best steaks you can get in Mtl. Accompanied by Rib N Reef, Queue de Cheval (well, I guess that USDA premium beef is the key secret ;p)
-Le Tonkin restaurant, Montreal: Food ***, Service ***, Ambiance**
It is the best Pho/Vietnamese type of Restaurant in Montreal, at this moment. Point blank!
And it's clean and nice looking restaurant.
==================BOTTOM OF THE LIST=================
-STEAKHOUSE SAINT CHARLES, STE THERESE: Food *, Service ***+, Ambiance***
Awesome service (one of the most genuine and friendly staff I had the divine luck to have met with), but the owner needs --- on a heartbeat ---- to send his cook touring couple of steakhouses (Keg, Queue de Cheval, Moishes) and then come back behind his kitchen and start offering food that worths paying for!! Tired veggies, pale cheapie tasteless steaks...that is unacceptable! I will never get over the $200 spent for a dinner at your steakhouse for that! Do you realize that I could have enjoyed impeccable dinners at many high end tables
with that money??
-LE FRELUQUET, SAINTE ADELE Food *, Service **, Ambiance**
Siman, the owner of this restaurant, is a genuine friendly gentleman from Romania. When I went dining at his Freluquet restaurant in February 2009, he was in the kitchen along with some of his relatives. I was in shock: cheap appetizers as in cheap boiled tired shrimps cocktails that your corner store has hard time selling, tasteless cheap steaks. This restaurant was once a very good table offering superior food. You need, my dear Siman, accept fact that it would worth spending a bit on a good cook!
-LE PHARE DU NORD, Laval: Food *, Service ***, Ambiance***
Comments: I was served a spongy lobster that is flavorless, cheese cake that was frozen.
A bill that amounted 200++ for crap food! Service was great + the restaurant is beautiful
PS: This dinner occured on Sat 23rd june 2007. I never had the courage to find out if
this have evolved since!
C'mon folks...it's about time you realize that people are spending their hard earned money to enjoy a dinner!!
